Chapter 5: Going back to campus and special thanks!

I congratulated the team and excused myself from my supervisor as I needed to go back to the campus to catch the bus to UAQ. Since the bus left because the quiz lasted longer than expected, one of ZU staff took me with her to the campus along with my friend who insisted to stay until the end. I was so happy and called people who messaged me and asked me about the result. I called my dear sis since she was the one who recommended me for the whole thing. I messaged my teachers and friends! I was really happy!

In the following day teachers and friends congratulated me even my friends in the Coffee shop. They heard the news as well. I was so happy, I felt like I really did something for my dear university! It was such a cool quiz, it gave me a hard time but the result was incredible.

I would love to say A BIG THANK YOU to people who I appriciate their support! First my dear team A, F and S thank you for your hard work! Dear sis, thank you so so much for the prayers!! Chapter 4: It started...

When we entered the hall, we were stunned that the presenter was playing with the competitors’ nerve before telling them the right answer! My team wondered where our old presenter was. At the mention of the name, we saw him and a girl said “Look! Our friend is over there!”

It was sad to know that our university came second in the HR competition and that gave us a push to win. Once we stepped in the stage, I realized that what will happen in the next hour will decide how my mood will go for the rest of the day. The competition started and we got the first question right! It was brilliant that we got most of the first stage questions correctly. The first stage ZU my team came first!

The next stage was harder but we got the entire questions right. Then it was announced ZU won Tanmia-Damas Career Quiz 2007! I could not believe it and I was about to move to tears! Then the Minster of Labor gave us our certificates along with the other Quiz organizers. We paused to take a photo with them. A journalist from the Gulf News came to us and asked for a statement and we were happy to give her what she needed.

Chapter 3: The way to the DWTC

The big and final day finally came, March 13, 2007. I had no transportation to the trade center. However, my supervisor talked to the assistant dean of the business college to ask him to take me with him to the trade center. The assistant dean agreed and asked me to meet him at 10:00 am before the bus leave. My friends came with me and they could not stop taking photos of me!! I was trying to stop them but they just enjoyed it! Mr. N, the assistant dean, gave us some instruction and that we should be on time or the bus will leave then he looked at me “And don’t make troubles!” I looked at him innocently like I don’t know what he was talking about. Mr. N asked me about the quiz and what it was all about. So at the beginning of the trip to the trade center, I told him about the quiz and he wished me luck.

Once I got into the trade center, I called my supervisor. Luckily, she was in front of me when I called. I walked with her to the Zabeel hall the place in which the competition would be held. I sat studying when the guy who organized the quiz came to approach me. He asked about the rest of the girls and I told him that they are on their way. After an hour, my team arrived and we all seemed so bright and happy! We were not as nervous as the first time.

The organizer of the quiz came to us and asked us to follow him. He introduced us to the other girls from HCT and UAEU. We introduced ourselves and had a short chat. Then the team and I went to pray and revise for the last time. We could hear some noise from the hall. At that time, there was another competition going around between HR students from ZU, UAEU and HCT.

Chapter 2: The first stage, March 1, 2007

The day of the first round was really hectic. I was stunned to see the stage of the competition which had many chairs for the audience in the atrium. I was having an environmental science exam. It went really well and once I finished I went to see the supervisor Ms. A. I found her near the stage, I went to greet her and she told me the AD girls are coming soon. She gave me a badge and I went with her with some girls form the student council.

AD girls came with 2 buses carrying cheerleaders. Besides, I knew that they brought 2 teams instead of one. That made me really scared and I thought that we might not get a chance to win over AD teams. When we were asked to go on stage, I was praying so hard to win. We got seated and on the stage I could see my friends and teachers between the audiences. I should admit that made me really relaxed. However, in no time the competition began. I became thrilled once I realized that we started to score more points. Soon they announced that we won round one, I felt relieved. In round two the questions were harder but we managed. I could not believe how quick everything ended. In no time, it was announced Dubai ZU team won the first contest and were nominated to go to the final contest in Dubai World Trade Center.

My team and I got our certificates for participating in the contest. My friends kept messaging and calling me. Besides, I sent an email or a message to every teacher who was there. I thanked everyone for the support; it really meant a lot to me.

Chapter 1: How the whole thing started.

The Career Quiz is a competition organized by Tanmia and Damas. In every year the competitors comes from Zayed University, UAE University and Higher Colleges of Technology. It involves questions related to the careers and labor market in the UAE. I never thought that I will be involved in something like that so let me tell you about my story with this unique quiz.

Before the ending of last semester, I heard about Tanmia-Damas Career Quiz. One of the organizers told me that someone recommended me for it. I was not sure of accepting that because I knew that I will be so busy during the following semester. However, I thought it would be really interesting and a real challenge. That night I knew from my sis, that she was the one who recommended me!

After days of starting my first business major semester, an email was sent to me telling me that the materials for the quiz were ready to be collected. I went to meet my supervisor, the sweet Ms. A. I met her with another member of my team! A girl who is graduating this year. The materials looked freaky for the first second; it had a lot of numbers and statistics. We were told that after around 2 weeks, we will be competing with ZU Abu Dhabi Campus.

After a week, I got to meet the rest of my team. They are such sweet girls and looked serious about it. We wanted to win the whole competition as ZU never got the chance to be number one since the contest took place 2 years ago. We prepared ourselves and divided the work between us and prepared ourselves for the first round at the 1^st of March.
